Tag team back again.
Tamay Shannon [00:00:35]:
Alright. So I am super, super excited to talk about the subject for today. And it’s real simple. Today, we’re gonna look at why you’re not showing up on social media. And it’s gonna be surprising for some of you. Some of you are gonna nod your head in agreement, but, really, the purpose of today is to remind you what social media is for in your business, how to show up, and how to make it easy for you to show up. Let me create a story for you. So you’re standing on a stage and when you look out, it’s utterly black, it is completely void, and you came on the stage to give this wonderful amazing speech. But when you look out, you don’t have any feedback. And so all of a sudden this wonderful amazing speech that you were super excited about you’re less excited about. And it gets to the point where you just give up and walk off the stage. Now let’s flip that around. People from the audience see you lit up. They see your actions. They’re focused on you, and they’re excited to hear what you have to say. They see you in the spotlight and they want more. And that’s what happens on social media for real. You see a void
Tamay Shannon [00:02:08]:
You don’t get any information back. You get low engagement, and you just wanna kinda give up because you’re like, well, nobody cares anyways.
Tamay Shannon [00:02:16]:
But the people on Facebook, on Instagram, on threads, on TikTok, they cannot wait to hear what you have to share. They are focused on you, and that’s why it’s important to consistently show up. Because for you, it might feel like it’s not working. For you, it might feel like you’re speaking to avoid. For you, it might feel like nobody cares. But for your audience, They want more.
Tamay Shannon [00:02:46]:
So we’re going to talk about how to give them more, how to show up consistently, and stay in your zone of first things first?
Tamay Shannon [00:02:55]:
Show up. Get out of your head, y’all. You’re in your head so much. that you can’t see the forest for the trees. The crazy thing is is you give your thoughts power over you and your business. You give your thoughts more weight than what you know to be true. Did you know the average person has about 12 to 60,000 thoughts per day. That’s the average person. That’s not a business owner. That’s just somebody who’s out here going to work and coming home. So as a business owner, making all the decisions you have to make, making all the choices you have to make, we all know that it’s more than 60,000 thoughts per day. and you have the audacity to give all of those thoughts credence about how you should be
Tamay Shannon [00:03:48]:
Ma’am, sir, no, we are not doing that anymore, okay? We’re done with that. Agree? With so many thoughts, it can be really, really easy to believe them. Right? They happen again and again and again. And eventually, we start to believe the mess that’s in our head, the thoughts that are thought it by us,
Tamay Shannon [00:04:10]:
we start to believe them. Right? And I just want you to remember this. just because you think it doesn’t make it so, and I want you to remember that for yourself, just because you think it doesn’t make it so. And look, I don’t know if
Tamay Shannon [00:04:28]:
you have had this happen to you, but I’ll just share from personal experience.
Tamay Shannon [00:04:32]:
I will be hungry for dinner. And I will be thinking about all the foods that I want. I want tacos, maybe I’ll just cereal. You know what? Maybe I’ll order burgers and fries. But all of that thinking
Tamay Shannon [00:04:47]:
does not make the food appear in front of me. No matter how hard I wish it would, no matter how much I think about it, that food still doesn’t show up until I take action.
Tamay Shannon [00:04:59]:
So when do you think about yourself? And whether you should show up on social media and that nobody cares, and I’ll just give up, Remember just because you think it doesn’t make itself. So just because you think nobody cares doesn’t mean that that’s the truth. show up,
Tamay Shannon [00:05:17]:
and you’ll be proven different. Second thing I want you to do is focus on your zone of genius.
Tamay Shannon [00:05:24]:
And the difficulty with this for some people is their zone of genius comes easily to them. Right? Like, that’s the part of being a zone of genius that you have an ease with it, and so you feel a little guilty about being able to operate there. But that is where your juice is. That is where your community is. That is where it’s easy for you to show up and make content is your zone of genius. And so there’s a couple of ways that you can go about leveraging your zone of genius to create content on social media. One thing that you can do if you love to be from the camera, go ahead and record yourself talking about a subject. And when you record yourself, you don’t have to make this short right off the bat. You can go into all of the crevices of your knowledge base. You can do all the scenarios, and you’ll have a really big file at the end. It could be 10 minutes, it could be 20 minutes. and then you’ll take that file, and then you’ll break it down into little steps. Then you’ll break it down into reels, or then you’ll break it down into TikToks. If you don’t like being in front of the camera, that’s not a thing you want to do, then another thing that you can do is the same thing but slightly different. Record yourself on Zoom and strip out the audio. So instead of you having to worry about the camera, strip out the audio and use that. And, again, You can use those voiceovers for reals. You can use those voiceovers for TikTok. And then if you’re like, no. No. No. Really, where I like to share my expertise is through writing. Again, take that writing, make a long form piece of content, write a blog post, and then you can take that blog post and turn it. Each blog post here’s a little hint and reminder. Each blog post you can get about 10 to 20 pieces of content out of it. You really, really can’t, but you’ve got to look at it a certain way, but you can get 10 to 20 pieces out of each long form piece of content. And then finally, another way to create content from your zone of genius is to host a Q And A. host some office hours. You can do it through Zoom. You could do it through a webinar. You could do it live on Instagram. You could do it live on YouTube. And then what you’ll do is when you’re into the flow of it when you’re talking to people and you’re answering questions, you’ll start to show up and feel less self conscious. So then you’ll take that piece of content when it’s recorded, and you’ll see, okay, what kinds of questions that people are asking that I can go deeper in you wanna create my content. What are misconceptions that I noticed that people have about my industry are me? So that’s another way to create content. You can see what people are asking you, and then you can replicate that in other spaces as well as taking that video and also cutting it Finally, get excited about what you actually like. I like Garfield. I collect Garfield, and I share that. So you don’t have to play somebody on social media. You can show up as you. So if you like to pay figurines, if you like to crack, If you like to
Tamay Shannon [00:08:40]:
cook, if you like to develop recipes, you can share that because all of that
Tamay Shannon [00:08:42]:
informs how you view the world, and how you view the world is how you do your art, create your products, create your services. It’s All enmeshed. It’s all entangled. So don’t leave those bits out. Don’t leave those bits out trying to be cookie cutter. Don’t leave those bits out trying to be like somebody else. Those bits Those are the things that people identify with. Those are the things that people get excited about. Those are the things that people connect over. And if you think it’s not professional, then you’ve got to look at what professional is. It’s shifting and changing. And being professional now means you can actually share who you are and not hide who you are for the sake of conformity for the sake of getting along to get along. That’s not what we do here. You can do you You can share who you are, and it will absolutely add not only to the content that you create, but the ease in which you create that content because you don’t have to edit so much in your head. You can’t you don’t have to be like, oh, I can’t say that or I can’t do that. You can just show up, and that, I promise, will make your content creation so much easier.
