Is your business trusted?

I recently had an exchange with my Mom that reinforced how important being a trusted business is.

me:  yep
sent a really great book that we might could all read
by google
free
or at least i think its really great
who knows
it could be useless
but i trust google

It was interesting to me as I wrote those lines to really understand how much I trust Google. Implicitly. Please get that I only read the Table of Contents and saw 30 seconds of their video. From there I recommended the book to my mother based on 45 seconds worth of “investigation”. Is your business trusted like that? If not, let’s take a look at what Google has accomplished.

1. Own your niche.
Google started off their empire in search. They built their brand by reliably returning great results. From there they expanded into shopping, maps, phones, laptops and more.

2. Consistently and Reliably deliver results
Deliver on your brand promise. What are you telling your customers there going to get by working with you. Do they get it? If you don’t know try this.

3. Learn from your mistakes.
Google excels because they are not afraid to try new things. They have failed in the past with Wave, Jaiku, and many others.  But they learn from what did not work and make it work next time.

By the way, the book is ZMOT.
What are your thoughts? How much is your business trusted?
