Quote from the episode:

Episode Recap:

In today’s episode, we tackle the all-too-familiar fear of missing out (FOMO) that arises whenever a new social media platform emerges. We emphasize the importance of staying consistent on our current platforms before jumping onto the bandwagon of the newest trend.

Joining a new platform doesn’t guarantee success. Instead, it can often lead to distractions and dilution of our efforts. Keeping our focus level in check and sticking to our well-thought-out strategies is crucial. Remember, success on social media is about quality, not quantity.

We discuss the rise in popularity of threads, driven by changes to platforms like Twitter and the ease of signing up. While it may seem tempting to join threads to avoid feeling left behind, we reassure you that they will still be available in the future. Take your time in exploring them without feeling pressured to do so immediately.

Action Items:
1. Reflect on your current social media strategies: Take some time to evaluate your existing platforms. Are you consistently providing valuable content and engaging with your audience? If not, double down on your efforts before adding new platforms.

2. Be mindful of FOMO: Instead of succumbing to FOMO, stay focused on your goals and intentions. Don’t let the lure of new platforms divert your attention from your well-established strategies.

3. Incorporate new platforms at your own pace: If you’re interested in a new platform like Threats, take the time to understand how it can add value to your business. Don’t rush into it just because it’s the latest trend. Be intentional and consider how it aligns with your goals.

Conclusion:

Remember, you don’t have to join every new platform that comes along. Maintaining social media sanity means staying true to yourself and your business goals. Tamay Shannon [00:00:29]:

Alright y’all. So I know you’ve heard about Threads. And if you haven’t, it is basically Instagram or Meta’s. Answer to Twitter. And it launched last week. And in 48 hours, in 2 days, it had almost 80,000,000 sign ups.

Tamay Shannon [00:00:54]:

So you might be feeling a little bit of FOMO, a little bit like, should I do this, a little bit of, oh my goodness, I’m missing out. Let me talk you off this ledge. Are you overwhelmed? Like, for real. Like, in your business, Are you consistently marketing yourself? On the platforms that you’re already on, whether that’s Facebook, whether that’s linkedin, Twitter, any of that, are you actually being consistent on those platforms? If you’re not being consistent, why would you add another one? Why would you give yourself that headache? Why would you give yourself that overwhelm? Why would you add something else onto your plate? if you’re already not optimizing what you already have. And speaking to that, I know one of the things that I see a lot is then FOMO. People have been like, well, if I don’t sign up, I might miss out on growing my audience in that $1,000,000 contract that I’ve been really, really looking for that that one person who’s gonna change everything in my business. And my answer to that is and you’ve really gotta look at this for yourself, y’all. If you are not currently converting the people, you already have on these other platforms. Why do you think threads will be different? Is it the novelty? Is it because it’s new and everybody’s feeling excited and happy? But why do you think that because this platform is just new and you do the same thing there that you do on other platforms, why do you think this would convert but you not do anything different? Just a question, and I really wanna make sure that you can answer that question because there are always gonna be new platforms. So you’ve gotta really look at and you’ve gotta understand for yourself, how do you convert people? How do people buy from you? And once you have that, you will own social media. But until that point, it might feel a little bit of blurry. Right? The second thing I really want you to consider before you hop on threads is your focus level. Don’t let this distract from the strategy that you created at the beginning of 2023. Now I don’t mean that you completely ignore it and keep on marching forward. you might go ahead and set aside some time this month to look at. Does threads add to what you’re doing, or does it take away? Does it take focus away? Does it take time away? Does it take intention away from the things that you’re doing? And you really wanna look at that and see if it could actually be integrated in a way that doesn’t have you feel helter skeltered. That doesn’t have you feel like you’re running to catch up. That doesn’t have you feel like, oh, crap. Let me just put something together and get it out there. Oh, and if you think the popularity is an indicator of the worthiness for your business. Look, it was really just a perfect storm of Elon Musk messing up again and adding further restrictions to Twitter that really had people upset and the ease of use to sign up to threads. Literally, it’s 3 clicks Your username is there, your bios there, it imports everything from Instagram. So it just makes it really easy for people to sign up. So those two things really contributed to why it exploded overnight. So don’t me doesn’t mean that you are being, out or that it’s really, really, really cool and you’re not on the cool train. No. It just means 2 things came together, and this is what we got. And the final thing about threads is It’s gonna be there. It’s gonna be there later. So if you don’t sign up this week, it’s fine. It’s gonna be there next month when you have the time capacity to explore. And if it’s not, then you didn’t waste your time. But know that this newness will always be happening in social media So do not let FOMO. Do not let the fear of missing out. Impact your goals. Impact your well thought out strategy. Impact your intentions. Do not get distracted by fear. Stick to what you created for yourself knowing that you put the thought the time and the effort to constructing a plan that really is gonna have your business grow. Like, I know you can do it, so don’t even worry about it. Right? So that is those are my thoughts about thread, y’all. You don’t have to jump on it if you’re feeling overwhelmed, if you’re feeling distracted, if you’re losing your focus, You don’t have to jump on it. It’s okay. Step away from the edge of the cliff. You’re not missing out. It’s gonna work. Take the time. later on to figure out how it can really be incorporated into your business in a way that adds to your business not takes away. Alright? So until next time, I am excited to talk to you. And that wraps up social media serenity. apply the insights and strategy to build a mindful online presence.
