In today’s episode, we’re diving into the fourth quarter. Yes, it’s only October, but believe me, the end of the year will be here before we know it. So let’s talk about getting in alignment and ensuring that we achieve our goals the way we want to. After all, we don’t want success at the expense of our sanity!

A key question to ask yourself is: “What worked?” Take a moment to reflect on the activities you undertook, the tasks you delegated, and everything that led to your successes. Write it all down—you’ll see how these efforts contributed to your achievements.

Now, let’s explore the flip side: “What didn’t work?” Determine which marketing strategies fell flat or whether you made any hiring mistakes. Identifying these setbacks helps you find ways to improve or make better choices in the future.

Another crucial question is: “What did you like?” Despite certain things not working out, there may have been aspects you enjoyed. It’s important to recognize these preferences because they can guide you towards finding ways to align your business goals with your personal satisfaction.

On the other hand, ask yourself: “What didn’t you like?” If there are tasks or activities that worked but left you feeling unfulfilled, consider outsourcing or delegating them. Finding someone who enjoys those tasks will free up your time, energy, and sanity.

Next up, choose three goals to focus on. Remember, as humans, we tend to overestimate what we can achieve in a month but underestimate what we can accomplish in a year. Be realistic about your time and other commitments, such as your job or family responsibilities. These three goals may not seem groundbreaking, but they will contribute to your success in the long run.

Equally important is to determine what you will NOT commit to. Are there certain activities or distractions that you need to avoid in order to stay focused? Write these down so you can refer to them when the temptation arises. Setting boundaries ensures that you stay on track and don’t get overwhelmed with unnecessary tasks.

Finally, choose a data source or source of truth for your goals. Whether it’s a spreadsheet, a paper document, or a whiteboard, select a method that works best for you. Update your progress regularly, relying on data rather than your feelings alone. These metrics will provide valuable insights and help guide your decision-making process.

As you take the time to answer these questions and set your Q4 goals, remember that you have control over your business. It’s your creation, and you have the power to mold and shape it according to your desires. Embrace this freedom and go forth confidently.

Key takeaways from this episode:
1. Reflect on what worked and what didn’t.
2. Determine what aspects you liked and disliked.
3. Choose three realistic goals aligned with your long-term vision.
4. Set boundaries by deciding what you will not commit to.
5. Establish a reliable data source to track your progress.

Tamay Shannon:

Welcome to Social Media Sanity, the podcast that brings you bite sized reminders and insights to navigate the world of social media. I’m your host, Tanae Shannon. In each short episode, we provide practical strategies, thought provoking questions, and permission to be true to yourself as a business owner. Join us on this journey to a mindful and purposeful online presence. Let’s dive in. Hello, q 4. Hello, end of the year. Hello, 2024.

Tamay Shannon:

Yeah. I know. It’s just October, and you know how it goes. At the end of the year, things just fly by. So this episode, I really wanna talk about q four getting an alignment and making sure that you hit the goals that you wanna hit and the way that you wanna hit them. I’m gonna walk you through a series of questions that you should be asking yourself to not only your goals, but really get to them the way that you want to. Right? Because, yeah, let’s say you wanna make 6 figures. You’re not trying to make 6 figures exhausted, are you? No.

Tamay Shannon:

That’s not the plan. So we there’s 2 sides to being an entrepreneur. There’s getting to your goals and getting to your goals in the way that you wanna get to them. The the first question is, what worked? What worked? What did you do? What activities did you take on? What things did you delegate? What worked? And write it all down, and you’re gonna see that this contributes to the successes that you had. So what worked? The the second question is, what did it work? What didn’t work? So whether it was marketing, whether it was Somebody you hired, somebody you delegated to, what didn’t work? Then the key question is, what did you like? So there are things that worked and didn’t work, and you actually liked some of those things. So look at what did you like. And when you look at the category of what did work and what you liked, we are definitely continuing to do that. When you look at what didn’t work, but you liked it, then we’re gonna look at, okay, are there ways to make it work? Is it you should have done something faster, giving yourself more lead time? But look at the things that didn’t work or that you liked doing And see if there’s a way to make them work and contribute to the bottom line of your business.

Tamay Shannon:

Now we’re gonna look at what didn’t you like. And so the categories of what worked but what you didn’t like, those are prime opportunities to outsource. Delegate it out. Find somebody who likes to do it. And then for what you didn’t like and didn’t work, call it deuces. Let it go. Let it release it to the ether. There’s no reason for you to continually force yourself to do something that you don’t like.

Tamay Shannon:

You did that at your job. Why are you gonna do it at your business? What 3 goals are you going to focus on? And One of the things about being a human is that we love, love, love to overestimate what we could get done In a month, but underestimate what we can get done in a year. So when you’re looking at these 3 goals, be really, really cognizant pot that you’re not planning and executing in a vacuum. You’re planning with a job or kids or other obligations That you wanna give your time to, and you want to make sure that you’re also not planning in such a way that you’re forced to Stay up till 3 AM, turn around, get up at 5, and start all over again. So these 3 goals, They might not feel like they’re swinging for the fences, but there are 3 goals that absolutely contribute to the success pot of 23 and sets you up for 24, again, in a way that you want to run your business. And really a more important question, what you commit to, is what will you not commit to? What will you not do? Write that, Dale. Okay? Write it, Dale. So when I say what will you not do, I mean activities or actions.

Tamay Shannon:

So this might be something like, I am not going to do, I’m not gonna say yes to when people email me and ask me to do something real quick. Hey. Can you come speak real quick? Hey. Can you come jump on this podcast real quick? Because that might be something that distracts you From the day to day working on your business and not in your business. So you gotta look at what will you not do. Write it down so that when it comes up, you don’t feel guilty. You don’t feel like you’re missing out on an opportunity because you actually did the thinking To know that this is not gonna contribute to you, it’s just gonna distract you. And then your final most important thing is what is your data source or source of truth.

Tamay Shannon:

Where is it that you’re gonna have the updated KPIs and metrics for your goals? Is it gonna be a Google Sheet? Is it gonna be a piece of paper? Is it gonna be a whiteboard on your wall? Whatever it is, Choose that data source. Choose how often you will update it, and stick to that schedule because we all know we’ve had times where We felt super productive. We got things checked off the list, but the results were not in line with What we wanted to create and, alternatively, different times where we felt like we got nothing accomplished and yet things move forward. So having this source of truth based on data and not your feelings is another way that you rapidly move forward. That’s it. Those are the questions you gotta ask yourself. Sit down with tea. Sit down with coffee.

Tamay Shannon:

Sit down with a glass of wine. It just work through them. When you lay this foundation for yourself, when you do this quarterly, one, it makes you, like, really think about your business. It isn’t going in the direction you want it to go, so you don’t wake up and be like, this is not what I wanted at all. But it also just pot reminds you that you have choice. You have choice in your business. You don’t have to do anything. You’re not forced to do anything.

Tamay Shannon:

This is your choice. It is your creation, And you could create it however you want to, so go create it. And that wraps up social media sanity. Apply the insights and strategies to build a mindful online presence. If you enjoyed this episode, I would greatly appreciate it if you could leave a review on your favorite podcast platform.
