Now, let’s get into it. In this episode, we discuss the importance of going back to the basics of marketing and social media when faced with slow sales. As Tamay Shannon eloquently put it, “Having slow sales is not about you as a person. It’s about the actions you’re taking in your business.”

Here are a few key takeaways from the episode:

  1. Follow up: Take the time to reach out to those individuals who showed interest in your product or service. People have busy lives, and your follow-up can be seen as a helpful reminder or support. Don’t let the fear of bothering others hold you back.
  2. Talk to past clients: Your past clients are a valuable resource. Reach out to them and ask if they need more services or if they can connect you with potential leads. These clients already know and trust you, making them more likely to say yes.
  3. Reach out to past “no’s”: Don’t underestimate the power of reconnecting with those who previously said no to your offerings. Circumstances change, and what may have not been a fit in the past might be exactly what they need now.

Now, I won’t give away too much here, as I highly encourage you to tune in to the full episode. You’ll find even more actionable steps to implement this week to boost your sales and close those deals.

Welcome to Social Media Sanity, the podcast that brings you bite sized reminders and insights to navigate the world of social media. I’m your host, Tamay Shannon. In each short episode, we provide practical strategies, thought provoking questions, and permission to be true to yourself as a business owner. Join us on this journey to a mindful and purposeful online presence. Let’s dive in. Do you feel like it’s been slower than slow for your sales? Are you a little worried? Are you a little upset? What has it been like for you lately? I’ve seen out in these internet streets a lot of people saying that business is slow, like very slow. And so when business is slow, the one thing that you can do that always brings new business in is going back to the basics. So that’s what we’re going to talk about today, going back to the basics for fundamental marketing and going back to the basics for social media.

Tamay Shannon [00:01:11]:

By the end of this short podcast, you are going to have the action steps that you can take this week to get people in the door, to get leads, and to actually close sales that you need to close right now. First things first. Deep breathe. You got this. This is the perfect time to look at your fundamentals and look at what’s missing in your business. Having slow sales is not about you as a person. It’s about the actions you’re taking in your business. In fact, if you’re on a roller coaster ride in your business, good months, bad months, and it goes really up and really down, this is a great opportunity to look at the processes and systems that are missing in your business such that you’ve got those really high, high months and you have those really low, low months.

Tamay Shannon [00:02:06]:

So that’s just a special note. If you’re going through that cycle, this is the perfect time to take a look and reevaluate what’s working and what’s not working such that you don’t have an even or reliable stream of revenue. All right, so I want you to do these four things for the fundamental marketing steps that you can do to bring people into your business. First things first, follow up. Who have you not followed up with in the past week, month, or quarter? Those people that said, hey, get back to me, did you actually get back to them? Those people who were on the fence, have you followed up with them? Those people who said, hit me up when my budget renews next quarter, next year, have you actually done that? Here’s a pitfall to avoid when you’re following up, and what I can say is, the devil is a lie. So when you start following up, inevitably what typically happens is thoughts of bothering people or being a nuisance comes up. And that’s just simply not the case. Remember, people have full and busy lives.

Tamay Shannon [00:03:21]:

They are managing a lot. So you following up is actually of support to them. If this is a transformation they want and you follow up, this is a thing they’re happy about. It’s no different than if somebody’s hungry and they keep working and they forget to eat and you’re like, hey, by the way, I’m going to drop some food on your table to make sure you eat. They’re going to be thankful. It’s the same thing with your service. People want to eat. They want that transformation.

Tamay Shannon [00:03:52]:

They want to be full. So you following up is giving them the opportunity to eat. If you make it all about you and say, oh, they don’t want to hear from me. Oh, I’m bothering them, you’re just leaving people out here starving, they starving, they hungry. All because you’re worried about what you think and what you sound like. The second action you can take is talking to past clients. And you can either ask them if they need more services or you can ask them to make a connection for you. But either way, your past clients are a wealth of resources.

Tamay Shannon [00:04:30]:

And so keeping in touch with them, reaching out to them, these are the people who are going to say yes to you the quickest. Whether they have an opportunity to give you some business or they want to make a connection for you, they know that you are the real deal. So reach out to your past clients, ask for that recommendation, or ask if they need some services from you and then finally reach out to your past. No’s. Yeah, the people who said no to you that said, I’m good on that, reach out to them because they could be in a different space in their business. They could be a different space in whatever they’re going through. And right now, your offer is actually the solution that they need. So make sure you reach out to the past.

Tamay Shannon [00:05:15]:

No’s. You’ll be surprised by what results you’ll get from that. And I saved this suggestion for last because I know if I had shared it earlier, a lot of y’all would have been like, no, I’m not doing that. You can’t tell me. And then you would have ignored the rest of the podcast. So the final thing is call. Yes. Pick up the phone and call.

Tamay Shannon [00:05:38]:

Use your voice. And the reason why is it is harder to ignore somebody who calls. It’s harder to ignore a voicemail. Just think about it for yourself. Think about the voicemails you get and that you respond to versus the text messages that you get and respond to. And so I know it can feel a little weird, a little scary, but I promise you calling is going to move things in your business. And as a side note, this call, 1520 minutes tops. I’m not trying to have you do a two hour long connection call, but you can actually get a lot done accomplish what you need in 15 to 20 minutes.

Tamay Shannon [00:06:20]:

One of the fundamental things that you can do for social media is DMs. Have you slid into people’s DMs recently? Now, if you are not a DM seller and that’s not how people know you, you do not have to pick up this method, right? But if it’s aligned with you and if it works, when’s the last time you checked in with people, you asked them for the sale? You dropped a link in the DM. This second thing that you can do on social media is a call to action. Are you asking for the sale? Are you creating great posts with lots of content that feel good but don’t ask for the sale? Well, there you go. So make sure you’re asking for the sell and your content. And when I say asking for the sell, it doesn’t always have to be buy my product. It could be sign up for my newsletter list, it could be attend my webinar. But make sure you’re adding calls to action in your content and you’re asking for the sale.

Tamay Shannon [00:07:21]:

The third thing is a sales post. Are you doing sales posts now? It’s different. So a CTA with a call to action with a sale at the end is different. It’s not all about your product or service. You might be sharing a story and then you might slip in a call to action to set up a call with you. But a sales post talks about your services, it talks about your products and it directs people to purchase. When have you done that? When’s the last time you did that? And if you can say, oh, it’s maybe two weeks, it’s been too long. Consistently selling is an important part of being a business owner.

Tamay Shannon [00:08:09]:

You don’t have to feel sleazy about it. But making sure that people know what they can buy from you is a service. Because again, going back to people have full lives. They are managing a lot. And so to put the onus on them, to remember all the things they need to do to interact with you is just plain cruel and it’s going to keep your pockets empty because they don’t have the capacity to do that. Because they’re worried about their kids, they’re worried about mom, the job, house and all of that stuff. They don’t have the mental capacity to remember that your product or service will give them a breath of fresh air because they are full up you all. So you have got to consistently sell so that you can save, rescue, transform these people that you are out to transform their lives, right? You have to consistently show up and sell.

Tamay Shannon [00:09:09]:

The fourth thing that you can do is go to the groups. Go to the groups that you pay for. Go to the groups that you’re a part of that you contribute to and do two things. If you’re allowed post a post about an offering that you have a product, a service a pick your brain, call, whatever it is. Post something that people can investigate it and buy. The second thing is look for your niche in that group. Look for search those keywords, see what post people are sharing and comment on them. Share on them.

Tamay Shannon [00:09:48]:

So if somebody says, hey, I need X, does anybody know? Make sure you search for that and say, hey, that’s me. That’s something that I can do. So look for those posts in those groups where people are asking for referrals and you refer yourself. Finally, go live and go live repeatedly. So don’t just go live on a Tuesday and then, all right, I’m done with that. And never touch. Go live again. Go live consistently.

Tamay Shannon [00:10:17]:

The reason why video is so important is because it is the next best thing for connecting with people. So if you can’t lay your eyes on people, if you cannot shake their hand and network with them in person, the next best thing for you to do to establish and grow that trust is video is going live. And when you go live, it does two things algorithm loves it, yeah, perfect and great. But also you have the ability to interact and engage with your audience in a way that you can’t in a post, in words, right? And so just look at it as a conversation. Look at it as a way for you to answer those deep questions that you know they have but they’re scared to ask. Going live is the ability for you to share your expertise, to share your heart, to share your passion, so that people can see it and feel it. That’s it. Those are the actions.

Tamay Shannon [00:11:20]:

You probably have heard of them before, but really the fundamentals are the best. They produce results. So if you are looking to fill your pipeline quickly, if you’re looking to close deals quickly, I promise you go through these steps. Go take these actions this week and you’ll see a shift in your business. But remember, don’t take slow sales as the opportunity to invalidate yourself, your business, or your service. Your sales has nothing to do with the transformation you provide. Your sales is simply an indication of how consistently you’ve been marketing, how consistently you’ve been talking about yourself and who your audience is. But it has nothing to do with the transformation you provide.

Tamay Shannon [00:12:14]:

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. So do not take slow sells as an indicator of whether you should be doing what you’re called to do. And that wraps up social media sanity. Apply the insights and strategies to build a mindful online presence. If you enjoyed this episode, I would greatly appreciate it if you could leave a review on your favorite podcast platform.
