Quote

I want to start off with a quote that hits on the theme of today’s discussion:

Look, I know that you can whip up something in Canva, but if it's taking you 3 hours to do it, maybe we should bring in some outside support.

Episode Takeaways

Now, let’s get right into the action items for you to take away from this episode:

1. Create Space to Dream Big: Black Friday is the perfect time to make space for your dreams and execute your plans. Think about offering special discounts or collaborating with others in your industry to amplify your reach and impact.

2. Ask the Right Questions: To make Black Friday an intentional action, ask yourself how you want to feel on that day. Use this desired feeling to craft an offer aligned with your experience. It’s all about taking control of your own journey and pursuing the results you truly desire.

3. Work Backwards and Collaborate: Determine the results you want to achieve and work backwards to create a clear plan. Collaboration is a powerful tool, so reach out to individuals who can provide support in areas that may take you more time to accomplish. Together, you can achieve great things!

Transcript

Before I wrap up this post, I want to share the full transcript of this episode, so you can dive deeper into the insights and strategies discussed. Remember to take care of yourself and your mental well-being during the Black Friday frenzy.

Tamay Shannon [00:00:04]:

Yes, it’s July. And yes, I want to talk about Black Friday. And I want to talk about Black Friday today because I want you to have a choice to say how this Black Friday is going to go for you.

Tamay Shannon [00:00:47]:

Is it going to be easy? Is it going to be filled with collaboration? Or is it going to be nothing at all? Whatever you choose, it’s your choice. And let’s be honest, whatever we choose, let’s make this promise to each other. We are not going to let time choose for us this year. It won’t be, well, let me see what I can whip together real quick or, I don’t know, this worked last year, or if I had more time, I would reach out to this collab. This year, we choose what it’s going to be. That’s what we’re going to do. But before we choose, let’s lay some groundwork. Now, first, when I say Black Friday, I do mean that whole hashtag holiday.

Tamay Shannon [00:01:35]:

So Cyber Monday, that following week, small business Saturday, all that. That’s what I mean when I say Black Friday. These three questions, they’re going to be the foundation for your Black Friday. So this time around, we are not going to get into specific tactics that you can use on social media. That’s going to come later. Don’t worry, we have time. But really, this is going to lay the groundwork to make sure that Black Friday is an intentional action for you and your business and not just reactive. So the first question is how do you want to feel? How do you want to feel? Do you want your Black Friday to be relaxed? Do you want to feel accomplished? Do you feel ambitious? Why this matters is because it’s going to help you craft your offer in a way that’s aligned with the experience you want to have.

Tamay Shannon [00:02:34]:

So if you want to feel relaxed, you might not launch anything new. You might just do a coupon code and be like, here you go, have fun with that. If you’re feeling ambitious or you want to feel super accomplished, you might be up for adventuring into the unknown. Either way, sit with this question and really be honest with yourself and don’t play the blame game or don’t guilt yourself into doing more than you authentically want to do. And just in case you’re saying, all right, this is way too early, to me, this is way too much, the best laid plans always make you more prepared. All right? So just think when you are wanting to make a cake or make a dish along the way if things start to look funny, you know, because you know what your outcome is. So along the way of making your cake and it starts to look like spaghetti, you know, before you get to the end that something’s not right, you know, you need to adjust something. And so it’s the same thing with this.

Tamay Shannon [00:03:41]:

If you know that at the end of Black Friday, you want this whole thing to be relaxed and you find yourself getting more spun up, then you can look and ask yourself, okay, wait, what do I need to do to reclaim my piece? Oh, I could probably delegate this. Oh, you know what, I need to outsource this. Oh, I need to make a decision about this. Oh, I need to do this. But it gives you action to the steps that you need to take to make sure that you maintain how you want to feel during the process. The second question is when we always jump to first. And that question is what results do you want to have? And this shows up typically, like more money in the bank. I want to have this many sales.

Tamay Shannon [00:04:27]:

But you also can do things like awareness or bigger reach. But whatever you choose, make sure that it is something that you choose and hasn’t been chosen for you based on conversations you’ve been having or information you’ve been taking in about what you should be doing. Once you have the results you want to produce, then you work backwards. So let’s say that you want to have 100 sales and then over the course of the seven days, that’s about 15 sales every day. Now, if you have a day with zero sales, you know that you need to adjust and pivot. You know that what you did that day, what you had planned for that day, did not produce the results you wanted to produce. So you’ve got to change it up. And then if you have a day where you hit the 15 sales, then that’s an indicator.

Tamay Shannon [00:05:21]:

All right, double down. Let’s do more of that because that is working. So what results do you want to have create that and then work backwards? The final question that is going to lay the groundwork for you is who do you need to reach out to? Who do you need to reach out to? Now, collaboration brings coins. Point blank, period. Collaboration brings coins. So whether you’re delegating aspects or cross promoting who you work with makes your life easier. I want you to think about who you might need during this time. And I want you to specifically include areas that you can do but take you forever to accomplish, like graphic design or copywriting.

Tamay Shannon [00:06:09]:

Look, I know that you can whip up something in Canva, but if it’s taking you 3 hours to do it, maybe we should bring in some outside support. Or if there’s a collaboration that you want to bring about. You still have enough time to slide into somebody’s DMs and develop a relationship. Shoot your shot. You can do it. And this is just a really quick side note shooting your shot, y’all. Some of y’all shoot your shot once and then call it a day. When have you ever in your life watched a basketball game where they shot a shot, and then they was like, all right, well, it went in or it didn’t, but I’m done.

Tamay Shannon [00:06:47]:

The game is over. No, they shot their shot and then shot another one, and then did it again, and then did it again until the game was over. So when I say shoot your shot, I mean keep shooting your shot until the game is over. This is your time. Create the space for yourself to dream big with the time to execute. Whether you want to do a simple percentage off or a whole new collaboration, it’s up to you. And there is no wrong answer. And that wraps up social media sanity.
